Reliance Jio has been a company in the headlines for quite some time now, since the announcement of their 4G plans for the Indian telecom sector. Now, they are joining the smartphone fray by launching some new devices in the Indian market.
The devices are expected to go on sale from the first week of February, and they will be branded under the LYF brand. As of now, the devices include the LYF Earth 1, LYF Water 1 and LYF Water 2.
LYF EARTH 1
This is the more premium phone of the lot, The LYF Earth1 it comes with some pretty decent specifications. It will feature a monolithic unibody design with a premium rear glass panel. The display is a 5.5 inch 1080p AMOLED display. The memory capabilities include 32 GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded using a Micro SD card, and 3GB of RAM.
Running the show beneath the hood is a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 615 processor that’s clocked at 1.5GHz. There is a dual camera (main camera + depth sensor) module in the rear, with resolutions of 13 MP and 2 MP, and the front facing shooter has a resolution of 5 MP. The OS on board is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The battery capacity is 3,500mAh, and the phone is 4G ready with VoLTE capabilities.
LYF WATER 1
The LYF Water 1 is a smaller sibling of the Earth 1, with a design much similar to the Xperia lineup. It features a 5 inch 1080p LCD display, which surprisingly has a higher pixel density than the Earth 1. Under the hood, this phone features a Snapdragon 615 processor that is clocked at 1.5 GHz, and the memory capabilities include 16GB of onboard storage (which can be further expanded upto 32GB) and 2GB of RAM.
The main camera has a resolution of 13MP and the front facing shooter has a resolution of 5MP. The OS on board is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the battery capacity is 2,600 mAh. This phone is also capable of supporting two SIM cards with 4G VoLTE capabilities.
LYF WATER 2
The Lyf Water 2 is the most affordable of the three LYF devices, and it features a 5 inch LCD display that has a 720p resolution. The processor is the Snapdragon 615, and the memory capacities include 16GB of internal storage (expandable using a Micro SD card) and 2GB of RAM.
In the optics department, the main camera has a resolution of 13 MP, with a Sony Exmor RS lens, and a front facing shooter with a resolution of 5MP. The battery has a capacity of 2,400 mAh and the OS is Android 5.1 Lollipop. Connectivity options are similar as the other LYF devices, and there’s support for VoLTE, 4G LTE and VolWiF
PRICING AND SALE
The LYF devices are currently listed on the Reliance Digital online store, and they are priced at Rs. 23,990/- (for the LYF Earth 1), Rs. 14,999/- (LYF Water 1) and Rs. 14,690/- (LYF Water 2). There has been no word on the availability as of now, but leaks suggest that the phones should be up for grabs in the first week of February.
