Samsung Galaxy Grand: New Mid-Range Phablet launched

Samsung has launched yet another phablet, but this time a mid-range offering. The new device is called the Galaxy Grand. The Grand comes with a 5 inch display, which according to Samsung will provide “an expansive viewing experience, presenting messaging, multimedia and web content in brilliant color and clarity”. The new device looks similar to Samsung’s other phablet the Note II, but differs in dimensions. The Grand will come with a 1.2GHz dual core processor, with 1GB of RAM. It has an 8MP rear cam and a 2MP front cam. According to Samsung, the cam comes with “zero shutter-lag and ultra-quick camera start-up”. It is also capable of recording full HD videos. Other hardware component includes WiFi a/b/n/g, 8GB of internal storage, a 2100mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, GLONASS and comes preloaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Samsung Galaxy Grand also includes intuitive features that make the phone easy to use. For example, Direct Call enables users to automatically dial a call by raising the device up to the ear; while users can also shake the phone to trigger status updates, or pan it to zoom into a screen. Smart Alert shows missed events such as missed calls and new messages just by picking up the phone. Popup Video, for example, lets users watch video in a pop-up window anywhere on the screen while running other tasks; S Voice lets you control the phone using your voice; and AllShare Play lets you share content across Samsung devices using a single account. It also comes pre-loaded with “the latest versions of Samsung Hubs to deliver the most popular games, movies and music direct to the user on demand”.

The Galaxy Grand will come in a Dual-SIM versions as well as a Single SIM version. The Dual-SIM version of the device will be launched first, followed by the Single SIM version. The exact launch date of the device is unknown.
