Tailly: The Tail That You Wish You Had

Ever wanted to express your excitement in a more fun way? Well here is a gadget that will let you do exactly that. The gadget is called “Tailly”. Developed by Mr. Shota Ishiwatari of japan, Tailly is a robotic tail which wags when you get excited. It comes with a belt, using which you can strap it onto your waist. Now comes the question: How does it know when I am excited? Well, it reads your heart beat. The belt has sensors on it which senses one’s heart beat rate. When one gets excited, their heart beat increases, which is detected by Tailly and hence it starts to wag. When the excitement goes down, the heart beat rate follows suit and Tailly stops wagging.

According to the creator, Tailly is a combination of a toy, fashion accessory, a gadget and also an extension of one’s body since it reacts to one’s heartbeat. Many will now be thinking: where can I use one of these Taillys? To answer this, the creator says “Tailly is fun to wear to parties, while out with friends or playing with kids. You could even wear Tailly on a date and express your true feelings through the wagging tail. Even better, your partner could also wear one for the both of you to add a level of subconscious communication between the two of you”. We don’t know how true the date part is, but we can be sure that it will excite kids.

The basic color of Tailly is white. But it comes with different skins (or furs) which can be interchanged. Other colors include Black, Golden Brown and Gray. The creator expects to produce 3,000 Taillys by August 2013.

Find Tailly a bit wacky? Well, it is not the first time Mr. Shota Ishiwatari has created such a gadget. He had developed another gadget called “Necomimi” for Neurowear. Necomimi is basically a pair of robotic feline ears which would stand up straight when you concentrate on a particular thing. It does so by measuring a person’s brain waves and reacts accordingly. Why am I talking about Necomimi instead of Tailly? It is mainly to show how ingenious the technologies and ideas behind these sometimes wacky gadgets are.

If you love the concept of Tailly, you can help the creator by backing the project on Kickstarter. If you do so, you will be one of the lucky few who will be the first to get their hands on Tailly.
