Way back in CES 2015, ASUS took the covers off their new Zenfone lineup, and while almost all of them had made their way to Indian shores, one was yet to mark its presence. The Zenfone Zoom is a camera centric smartphone which boasts an Optical Zoom module for the rear camera, and it was recently unveiled in India.
At a hefty price tag of Rs. 37,999/- for the 128 GB variant, it does raise a few eyebrows. But the specs do seem interesting nonetheless, and here’s a lowdown of all the features of the Zenfone Zoom.
The display on the Zenfone Zoom is a 5.5 incher with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, amounting to a pixel density of 401 ppi. The display is covered by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. As far as the memory is concerned, ASUS is selling the 128GB variant version that has 4GB of onboard R
ASUS’s tryst with Intel is carried forward in the Zenfone Zoom as well, and the phone has a 2.3 GHz Quad Core Intel Atom Z3590 processor tucked beneath the hood. The GPU is a PowerVR G6430 variant.
The OS on board is Android 5.0 Lollipop with ASUS’s own proprietary ZenUI skinned on top. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and WiFi support for multiple bands. The battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh with a Fast Charging feature. The company claims that the phone can be charged by 60% in under 40 minutes.
While all these features are impressive enough, they aren’t the USP. The meat of the matter here is the camera, and the rear facing camera has a resolution of 13MP with an f/2.7 – f/4.8 aperture. There’s a 28-84mm optical zoom incorporated as well, which can zoom in upto 3X. Other features include Optical Image Stabilisation, laser autofocus, dual tone LED flash and a ten element lens designed by Hoya. Video recording features aren’t really the forte, and the phone can shoot videos of upto 1080p resolution at 30fps.
The front facing camera on the other hand has a resolution of 5MP with an f/2.0 aperture.
