We’ve seen quite a few sub brands become popular over the span of the last year, and perhaps the most notable example is Huawei’s Honor brand. Phones launching under the Honor umbrella are doing pretty well in the market, with the likes of the Honor 4X heating things up in the sub 12k segment.
Honor is now gearing up to launch its next offering to the Indian market in the form of the Honor 5X . Touted as the direct successor to the popular Honor 4X, the phone promises decent specifications for the price point and is going to launch in India on January 28th.
The Honor 5X does not by any means slouch in the specifications. The display is a 5.5-incher IPS panel with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. The engine under the hood is a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 616 SoC which has an average clock speed of 1.5GHz, and the GPU on board is the Adreno 405 GPU.
In the memory department, the phone is actually expected to launch in two variants – the 2GB RAM version and the 3GB RAM version. There’s 16GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded via Micro SD card to up to 128GB.
Coming to the snappers now, the rear shooter has a resolution of 13MP with a dual LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, 28mm wide-angle 5P element lens and a Blue Glass IR filter. The front facing camera has a resolution of 5MP with an f/2.2 aperture, a 22mm wide angle lens to fit everyone in for that selfie and a 4P lens element.
The battery running the show is a 3000mAh one, and there’s support for Quick Charge 3.0. The company claims that Quick Charge 3.0 can charge the phone up to 50 percent capacity under half an hour. The operating system is Android 5.1 Lollipop with Emotion UI 3.1 skinned over.
There’s also a fingerprint sensor incorporated into the device, which is stated by the company to unlock the device in under 0.5 seconds. There’s dual SIM capability – with one micro and one nano SIM – the latter possibly doubling up as a SIM / Micro SD card hybrid slot. Both can operate on 4G.
Launch and Pricing:
The phone was launched at CES 2016 in the US at a price of $199. While the pricing for the 2GB RAM variant is CNY 999 (about Rs. 10,500/-), the 3GB RAM variant would set you back by about CNY 1399 (about Rs. 14,500/-).
The company is expected to launch the phone in India on January 28th.
