Moto G 3rd Gen Overview

Published :

The Good

  • IPX7 water resistant
  • Great camera
  • Latest android version
  • Amazing battery life
  • SD card slot

The Bad

  • Boring Design
  • 720p display

The Bottom Line

At end of the even with some obvious sacrifices the Moto G 3rd Gen is still one of the best budget devices when it comes to being a great overall performance and handle everything you throw it with little to no issues.

This is a 16gb version of the Moto G 3rd generation.

This is the third iteration of the all so popular Moto G, the phone that brought back Motorola back to life. Pretty much everything about the phone has been given an upgrade, but only on the inside, like the processor, camera , battery life and an improvement from splash proof to waterproof. The phone still retains its form and size along with its screen.

Design And Build:

Although the looks of the phone is certainly not eye catching , it’s built pretty well. There is plastic around the edges, but the back of the phone is textured pretty nicely and give you a good grip on the phone. The back cover is removable though the battery ain’t, but it has an SD card slot down there, whose absence is seen as a deal breaker for quite a few. When the back is properly strapped on the phone is IPX7 water resistant which pretty much takes care of the phone in rains or splashes or even an accidental drop into a swimming pool.

Camera Performance:

This is one of the strengths of this phone as it sports the same 13MP sensor as on the Nexus 6, though it skips out on OIS and 4K recording, which isn’t a big deal at this price range. The 13MP rear camera has an aperture of f/2.0 plus a dual tone dual LED flash for better night photographs. The front camera is a 5MP unit which will go well with selfie lovers.

Display Clarity:

The phone retains the 5 inch IPS LCD panel and the resolution as well at 720p of the Moto G2. The display isn’t the brightest around but it has okay viewing angles. Since it’s an IPS LCD the color reproduction is not something you need to worry about, as it does pretty well in almost all scenarios.

Processing Speed:

The Moto G3 is powered by a Snapdragon 410, which is a quad core processor which can handle almost anything, if not everything you throw at it in a day to day usage. The Adreno 306 GPU helps it run games smoothly. The 720p screen means less workload on the CPU and the Moto UI is as close as you can get to stock OS which is rather light weight. The phone can be updated to latest Marshmallow version of Android, so multi tasking will be seamless and is aided by 2 gigs of RAM.

Battery Life:

The battery gotta bump this time around from the 2070 mAh to 2470 mAh , on literally the same device which gives a massive boost to its battery life and makes it one of this phones best features. The phone already had one of the best standby times among android phones and used to easily last a day on normal usage, and this bump can result in light users of the phone go 2 days without charging.

This a phone that wants to be the best in its segment, and it does a pretty good job at it as well. The strengths of the phone lie is the 13MP camera module shared with the Nexus 6 flagship from Google, an amazing battery and its smooth stock like OS, it’s already got Android 6.0 and Motorola devices are among the first devices in market to receive the latest Android updates.

Music Sound Quality

What about  Music Sound Quality in Samsung J5 or J7 and Moto G 3rd Gen 16GB . I like samsung phone just bcoz of its sound quality with headphones????

Hi you can go for  Moto G 3rd Gen   it has similar hardware as the j7 but it runs stock android so it wont lag and will be much smoother it also has an amazing camera in this price range and front facing speakers. j7 and j5 run with samsung skins with similar hardware it will slow down a lot over time and wont receive updates as fast.  Sound quality depends on the head phones u use to listen to music. So if u want great sound quality invest in a good ear phones the phone it self atleast these 3 phones will have zero difference in sound quality.

Hi Pranaya, between these the Moto G 3rd Gen  . best its the best over all package in real world usage experience. comes with one of the best cameras in this price range and best in class battery life, Also has one of the smoothest android experience thanks to Moto using stock android and it will also be one of the first devices to get Android M update when its out. Hi Ganesh, only phone which can give you the best over all experience and meet all your requirements is Moto G 3rd Gen   there phones with slightly better specs on paper than moto G at this price range but running stock android 5.1.1 out of the box with promise of fast update to Android M when its out along with what maybe one of the best 13 cameras in this price range makes moto G 3rd gen the best option in this price range. In Addition it comes with great build quality and also water resistance. Over all this will be smoothest android phone in this budget and best camera.

 Moto G 3rd Gen 16GB & Lenovo K3 Note which is best? Moto G 3rd Gen

K3 note has higher resoulution screen so it will take more toll on the performance and also the GPU in the moto G is slightly better that along with lower res screen you will get much better performance on the Moto G.

Which One Should I Buy ? Lenovo K3 Note Or Moto G (3rd Gen)?

Budget is 14000 rupees. I need a good camera and sustainable battery. Moreover the operating system should be very good

Hi Eddy, if you want the best overall experience go for the Moto G 3rd Gen   it has much smoother operating system and has promised updates for the next 2 years. because it runs on stock android its also much smoother and in addition it uses as the same camera module s the Nexus 6 making it one of the best cameras in this price range and as a added bonus it also is water resistant.

Display quality is also decent in this device and supports 16GB of internal memory. You can check the details and can order from flipkart at Rs.11,999: Moto G 16GB

Looking To Buy Moto G 16gb.

I am looking for moto g 16gb varient, i am confused because i read some reviews that it has some problam with kitkat so just suggest me what will i do. i buy it or not?

Abhay you are right about the issues Moto G faced with the KitKat update. The cellular signal losses and forcible switch to 2g networks were reported. However Motorola was quick on its heels and made some fixes in the 4.2.2 and also in the release 174.44.1 majority of the network issues were sorted out. Here is the link for the changelog- The crux of the matter is you can go with the Moto G as all the initial squeals has been addressed and you can be assured of further assistance as Motorola is lending a keen ears to customers woes.

Go probs. i am using it

Best Android Phone At Rs.16000

I am looking for the best Android phone at a price of Rs.16000 with features like competitive processing speed, RAM and camera

Go for the Moto G as it strikes the perfect balance between features and price. Moto G has a Quad core Snapdragon processor chrurning out 1.2 GHz . It has a 1GB RAM which is a good for multitaskers. The 5MP camera is not great neither is it as bad as touted by others. It is a decent camera for general photography. In this price range Motorola is the only handset which boasts of this features other than the Micromax.

HD Phones Really Suck Off The Power, Looking To Get A Phone That Is More Battery Friendly?

I need a phone that has more battery backup with HD if any. Otherwise would like to have a phone that carries a great display although not HD with good battery.

Palani, Its not just the display that zaps the power from your device it also depends on many other factors like the applications running on the background and the screen brightness settings. I think you should go for the Moto G which is comes bundled with many features and more importantly it has a very good battery life and the battery lasts for almost two days with mixed usage.
