- Good Camera
- Great Battery Life
- Only 1.5 GB ram
- Heavily skinned Android
Design and Build:
This is one of the Galaxy series 2015 edition of budget device's, which follows similar design guide lines to the Galaxy note 4 with metal rims and faux leather back. Phone looks like a standard Samsung affair when it comes looks design and overall feel of the device, feels pretty good in hands with moderate sized bezels and nothing too fancy or bad or good also for that matter. Phone feels hefty and quite heavy at 171 grams and there are lighter 5.5 inch devices with similar sized batteries in the market and Samsung could have done much better,
The Camera on the Galaxy on7 is a 13mp camera on the back and 5mp on the front. Nothing too great here they perform admirably well for the budget but there are better cameras in this price range. Its like Samsung just wanted to complete the check boxes for the budget device and didn't really put much effort into it.
Phone comes with a 5.5 inch TFT panel with 1280 x 720 Pixels with a 267 PPI, its sad to see samsung not even use thier trade mark SUPERAMOLED screen on thier budget devices specially considering the over all specs of the device which are also quite subpar in comparision to other devices from the same price like Moto G 3rd Generation. Display isn't all that bad to be perfectly honest but you expect more from Samsung who have been leaders in display tech year after year and that should have trickled down even to budget devices to a certain extent.
The Phone is powered by Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2 Ghz and 1.5GB Ram, Its a pretty good chip for the price range. Device performs decently but its very big let down that Samsung choose to cheap out on Ram and have only 1.5 GB ram on the device when the market is filled devices at much lower price points with 2GB and 3GB ram. The 1.5 GB ram really lets the device down specially considering how heavily skinned Samsung touchwiz is which is Samsung skin on top of Android over all its not a great experience.
Like all Samsung Android phones this one also comes with Touchwiz UI running on Android 5.1. Touchwiz has improved greatly compared to what it was a few years ago but its still quite heavily skinned and far from Stock android. Since its a pretty big resource hog it does not run that well on just 1.5GB Ram and would have been great if Samsung with atleast 2GB ram specially for a plus 10+ price bracket.
Battery on the Galaxy on7 is one of its strong aspects of the device. Powered by a 3000 mAh Li-on battery on a 5.5 inch HD screen. Phone will easily last day on moderate to heavy usage and battery life is not an issue on this device at all.
Overall Samsung will probably do well based on the Brand name also but at the price point with other devices like Motorola Moto G 3rd Generation around. Phone is under specced for the price point and considering how it has to power heavy touchwiz skin its not a great combination and over all the device is let down from Samsung.
