The Bottom Line

The Samsung Rex 90 is a low range phone with a decent camera and a utility driven user interface, apart from which however the phone isn't worth its price because of slow operating performance.

In this age of Android smartphones, it is hard to imagine someone buying a feature phone at a decent price range. But in India there are many who still want a feature phone and do not want to upgrade to smartphones. Samsung has also jumped to the feature phone battle by launching its Rex series of handsets, which it refers to as Smart Feature phones, a name that Nokia also uses for its Asha series.

Design And Build:

The Rex 90 is the costliest handset in the Rex series of Samsung. Rex 90 looks a lot like the Android based Galaxy Y , with a metallic strip around its sides but it has a rather rectangular home button. The back panel is shiny, not slippery. The rear panel is made of pure plastic but due to the shiny surface it does not look cheap. Sturdy with a chrome frame, the Samsung Rex 90 has the volume rocker nestled on the left side while the power button fits snugly into the right side. The phone also comes with 3.5 mm audio jack and responsive keys that make it a breeze to operate the phone even when you are on the move. The rounded body is designed to fit snugly in your palm.

Camera Performance:

Samsung Rex 90 comes with a 3.2 megapixel rear camera, and there is no front camera. The rear camera can be used for both video shooting as well as to capture still pictures. The camera app is inspired by the Android camera app. The 3.2 megapixel camera of the Rex 90 captures surprisingly decent images.

Display Clarity:

The phone has a 3.5 inch display with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, which amounts to 165 ppi pixel density and is not that attractive on a smartphone. There is no scratch resistant glass or gorilla glass which can protect the screen of Samsung Rex 90 against rough and tough conditions.

Processing Speed:

The OS runs on a 312MHz processor (XMM2230 chipset). It is not as fast as we expected, but is good enough for the OS it runs. It takes quite a lot of time to open apps and it does hang on a few occasions.

Power On It:

The Rex 90 from Samsung is powered by a 1000 Li-Ion mAh battery that gives you up to 15 hrs of talk time on a 2G network and 440 hrs of battery standby.

All in all the Samsung Rex 90 is a decent feature phone. However its has a low end camera resolution where there are better feature phones than this one in the market.
