Sony Xperia SP is a good looking mid range smartphone released by Sony. Sony Xperia SP looks like a descendant of high range smartphone, Sony Xperia Z but with mid range features and specs. The mid range features include good camera, lively display, amazing battery life and performance. Sony Xperia SP gives good competition to the mid range smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Design And Build:
Even though the Sony Xperia SP is a mid range smartphone the looks and esthetics are really stunning which gives the feel of a high end smartphone. The Sony Xperia SP is a bar shaped whose body is made up of plastic. The edges are a edgy and pointed. The size of the display is just 4.6 inches which is small and it is just 10 mm in thickness which is very thin and easily fits in the pocket. Most of the design is similar to Sony Xperia Z but it doesn't have metallic chasis or back panel. The weight of the phone is 155 which is quite heavy compared to other smartphone of same size like Samsung Galaxy Nexus .
The Sony Xperia SP comes with a 8 MP camera which manages to give some decent clicks. Compared to the other smartphones with the same camera resolution the quality of the images and videos are good. There are many different options which are present in Sony Xperia SP's camera app with which you can get some amazing pictures. The images in high light look a bit over exposed. It picks out details nicely especially darker tones and the colour reproduction is impressive while taking close-up items. There is also effect like panoroma mode which gives pretty good stiched image but the moving images look a bit smudged. The Camera is also accompanied by LED flash which helps to take images in dark and a 0.3 MP front camera which lets the user to video call and use Skpe.
The one feature which defines the brand Sony is its awesome display. The colours and the blacks present in the screen of Sony Xperia SP are very deep, clear and radiant. The resolution of the screen is 720 x 1280 pixels which gives lively images and videos with more sharpness and clarity. The display is not to the edge of the case like HTC One, The user can still see bezel's around the Sony Xperia SP's gorilla glass display. The screen is protected by gorilla glass which protects it from scratches and breaking easily. It is a TFT LCD screen which suffers occasionally with decent viewing angles. The one of the good features of the display is that comes with the capacitive screen which gives upto 10 fingers touch interface which makes high end gaming fun.
The processing speed of Sony Xperia SP is good compared to most of the smartphones in the market with the same price range. It comes with 1.7 Ghz dual core Qualcomm processor which gives good speed which is supported by 1 GB RAM. The Sony Xperia SP is loaded with Android V4.1.2 JellyBeans which is upgradable to the new Android V4.2.2 JellyBeans. Instead of small screen compared to Sony Xperia Z the interface speed and performance is pretty good which gives decent output to the user. The touch screen interface is smooth with less lags and hangs compared to most of the android devices.

The Sony Xperia SP comes with a 2370 mAh Li-ion battery which gives good battery life. It gives around 635 hrs and 764 hrs of standby at 2G and 3G respectively. It also gives around 10.41 hrs and 19 hrs of talktime at 2G and 3G modes. Though battery life is long it drains quickly because of the back lit screen and various apps. There is a Stamina Mode which switches off all the applications which are running at the back when the phone is not in use. It readily fires all the applications back when you press the power button. Also the battery is not removable so you dont have the option of using a secondary battery whenever you are out of juice.
Sony Xperia SP is a good looking smartphone by Sony which is loaded with decent specs and features giving good competition to the midrange smartphones. All in all a decent smartphone worth buying.
